Job Title: Renewable Energy Field Service Technician
Department: Operations & Maintenance (O&M)
Location: Houston, TX (Field-based) (Regional Travel Required)
Salary: 30/hr (Full-time)
We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Renewable Energy Field Service Technician to inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair commercial renewable energy systems, primarily focused on solar PV, wind turbines, and energy storage systems (BESS). In this role, you will work on-site to minimize system downtime, optimize energy output, and ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repair: Perform routine preventive maintenance, comprehensive system inspections, and emergency repairs on inverters, transformers, solar arrays, wind turbine components, and battery systems.
Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Utilize specialized electrical testing equipment, SCADA systems, and thermal imaging to diagnose hardware, software, and electrical faults.
Safety & Compliance: Adhere strictly to OSHA, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), NFPA 70E, and company safety protocols while working at height, in confined spaces, or around high-voltage equipment.
Documentation & Reporting: Log service activities, equipment failures, parts requests, and site conditions using modern Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
Grid & Quality Testing: Conduct performance testing, commissioning activities, and grid interconnection checks to maintain peak system efficiency.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education: Associate degree or vocational certification in Renewable Energy, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
Certifications: NABCEP, OSHA 30, and LOTO certifications preferred; GWO (Global Wind Organisation) training is a plus for wind technicians.
Experience: 1 3 years of experience servicing high-voltage electrical systems, solar PV, wind energy, or industrial automation.
Skills: Strong understanding of AC/DC circuits, single-line diagrams (SLDs), mechanical systems, and digital diagnostic tools.
Physical Requirements: Ability to climb ladders, work at heights up to 300+ feet (for wind roles), lift up to 50 lbs, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Travel: Valid driver's license with a clean record; willingness to travel locally/regionally as needed.
